Free Your Smile of Gaps with Porcelain Veneers
By Dr. Ribeiro on December 12, 2019
Unusually large gaps between the teeth are a problem for many individuals. In many cases, large gaps do not interfere with oral functions or throw off the balance of the bite. However, even when gaps are not an oral health concern, they are an aesthetic blemish. Gaps can make the smile look uneven, and they tend to draw a lot of unwanted attention.
At our cosmetic dentistry practice, Dr. Richard Ribeiro offers several treatments to address gapped teeth. Porcelain veneers for gaps are especially popular among our Clarksville, TN, patients. Porcelain veneers conceal imperfections and give the teeth a straighter, whiter, and more uniform appearance.
One of the reasons that porcelain veneers are so popular is that nearly all of our patients are ideal candidates for treatment. Treatment is safe and minimally invasive, so as long as patients have good oral health and realistic expectations for treatment and the results it will provide, they should be suitable candidates for porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers cover gaps between the teeth to make the smile look more evenly spaced. However, porcelain veneers can further conceal blemishes such as chips, cracks, fractures, dental stains, and discoloration, so they are especially beneficial for those whose smile suffers from numerous cosmetic flaws.
Placing Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers treatment is generally completed within two dental appointments, making the procedure quick and easy for our Clarksville patients. At the patient’s first appointment, the teeth will be prepared for porcelain veneers placement. To allow space for porcelain veneers to fit properly and sit flush with adjacent teeth, Dr. Ribeiro removes a small amount of tooth enamel from the treated teeth. After preparation, molds are taken and we discuss design specifications for the veneers. Dr. Ribeiro can customize the size, shape, and color of veneers so that they closely match surrounding teeth and conceal gaps without looking artificial.
A few weeks after porcelain veneers are designed, the fabrication process should be complete, and patients will return for placement. First, Dr. Ribeiro will test the fit of the veneers. If any last-minute alterations need to be made, we will do so before bonding the veneers in place. When we are satisfied with the fit of the veneers, a dental compound will be used to apply the veneers to the facial surface of the teeth. We then expose the dental compound to a special light until the material hardens, completing the bonding process.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers effectively conceal dental gaps so that our Clarksville patients can enjoy teeth that look straight, even, and uniform. However, the benefits of porcelain veneers go beyond the impressive cosmetic results they provide.
- Porcelain veneers are strong enough to withstand the pressure of biting and chewing
- Porcelain veneers are long-lasting
- Porcelain veneers are easy to clean
- Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, so they maintain their color
Dental gaps can affect the beauty of the smile. Fortunately, there are several cosmetic dentistry treatments that improve the appearance of gapped teeth.
